Mon 12Devotion, Reformation and the Beauties of Holiness in the Nar Valley

Dr Victor Morgan will lead an exploration of what was once known as “the holy valley” because of the large number of churches and religious houses there. The tour will include Narborough church, with its rich collection of brasses and monuments, the remains of the precinct of West Acre priory and its interesting church, and, if it is possible to arrange, the priory gatehouse at Pentney. Price and further details will follow here when booking opens

Sat 7Wherry 'Maud'

In 1899, Maud, the last survivor of Norfolk's iconic clinker-built trading wherries, was built to carry various cargoes including timber. This type of sailing vessel had long played a vital role in transporting materials and goods across Norfolk, but with the development of the rail and road networks they had become uneconomic. Looked after by a charitable trust, Maud is now used to educate the public about the role of wherries, and to keep alive the skills needed to maintain these special vessels.
The excursion will include a sail, refreshments (please bring your own lunch), and an informal presentation about Maud and the history of wherries. The cost of £25 includes membership of the Trust, which is necessary for insurance purposes. There are 9 places.
To book this visit:
• Download and print the membership form from the trust website, Membership confers the right to book on trips for the year to 30 April 2026.
• Complete the printed form and post it to the address on the form with a cheque for £25
(membership of £15 + optional donation of £10) and note that you wish to book on the 7th June trip.
